TPP’s soon to be retiring, longest standing franchisee

I became a franchisee back in 2006, so 11 years ago.

At the time I had five teenage children and it was exactly what I needed. I had flexibility to pick them up from school and be there for their events. It was easy enough to learn and I liked that it was something different. I was getting out and about and meeting people, not stuck in an office from nine to five.

I’ve met some extraordinary people along the way. One client I’ve been seeing for years has an Order Of Australia medal for his work with underprivileged youth and disadvantaged schools. He’s well into his 70’s now with a very bad back but still amazing. It’s such a shame how we as a society put people in categories, old, disabled, less abled. We underestimate how involved many of them are in their community, some of them are quite busy people.

On average, I see about six to eight clients a day, but easily up to 10 or 12 on a busy ones. Once you are confident calculating travel distances and times between visits you get into a routine and become quite a pro at scheduling your days.

Outside of client hours, I probably spend an hour on the weekend doing admin, looking through my notes, and doing rebookings. Of course there’s the quarterly paperwork for the accountant but these are things that come hand in hand with being in your own boss.

The Pedi People has been a good income earner for me and my family. One year I took all five kids up to Hamilton Island. That’s what’s great about this business, you are the engineer of how it will go. You can take time when you need it and then advertise when you need more clientele.

Of course, like any business it does take hard work and dedication, but you are buying into a system so you do have people to ring up should there be questions or if you are not coping with something. It’s teamwork and it works well. Of course after 11 years I don’t have many questions but there is support and assistance if I need it.

I’m hanging up my apron soon but Would do it over again? Absolutely!

Hi I’m Brett Warner,

I’m the proud owner of The Pedi People toenail cutting franchise in Canberra, Queanbeyan and Palerang. I’m looking forward to helping you and your feet feel great. I’m fully qualified in toenail cutting and all our tools are sterlised for your safety.

I have lived in the Canberra region on and off for around 30 years and love it. It’s such a great area with its nice clean air, wide open spaces, and being so close to the South Coast plus only three hours to Sydney. I think what I like most though is its people.

I’m a fully qualified Chef, and before The Pedi People, along with other business ventures, I ran my own bistro. I think the reason I’ve always been drawn to service industries is that I enjoy meeting people so much. I’m also a qualified Cabinet Maker who loves any opportunity to make a piece of furniture. Lucky for me, my lovely wife, Ange and I are renovating our house in Bungendore at the moment, so there’s always something to build or repair.

As soon as I heard about The Pedi People in late 2016, I immediately saw the great need for such a service here in Canberra, Queanbeyan and Palerang. Eight months later, I started the this fantastic business cutting toenails in the comfort of your own home. I’ve met a lot of lovely people in my first month of operating, and I’m looking forward to meeting more and expanding the service area. So please, tell your friends! You get a $5 discount and so does your friend.

If you have already tried our professional toenail cutting or medi pedi, manicureservices, you know the real beauty of this business is that I come to you, you don’t have to leave the house and travel to an appointment – we provide our friendly, professional service in the comfort of your own home. We can also rebook at the end of each visit, so you don’t need to worry about remembering to make another appointment, and I always give my clients a courtesy call a day or so before the appointment to make sure they are still available.

The tight knit family running three TPP franchises in South West Sydney.

In the first half of 2017, retirees Joseph and Carol invested, with their children, in a family business of a lifetime – the Pedi People franchises in their local area of South Western Sydney.

For Joseph, a former registered nurse, being able to continue providing care for the elderly and disabled was hugely attractive. While mum, Carol also loved this caring aspect of the franchise, it was the business end that caught the eye of the former accounts payable supervisor.

“The Pedi People was a fairly easy decision for us. It is a well-established business with a stable client base and a strong structure that has been tested for many years. We could see it would make a generous return for our whole family plus we were able to give back to the elderly”.

Taking on two days a week, daughter Melissa, an Aftermarket Sales Specialist loves being able to grow a business with her family but still have time for other endeavours. “Being able to fit in around our family lives and personal interests is excellent. As was the support setting up our business. We want to be Master Franchisees, and Melissa and Karen have been so supportive every step of the way. The support and training from their management is the best you can get”.

While Melissa sees clients two days a week until the business builds up, 25 year old Lachlan is full time, completely changing career direction with The Pedi People.  “I’m the first one out the door in my family to meet clients.  I really like it. I’ve actually shocked myself to be honest. I thought I was going to struggle a bit but it’s been very easy.  The clients always have a smile on their face, always happy to see me. I love that I am giving back. It makes me happy. It’s giving back to the community. I am helping people feel relaxed and feel special and good in themselves”.

The Pedi People are proud members of the Franchise Council of Australia.
